JANUARY IS THE TIME FOR BEING INTENTIONAL

It’s that time of year when more people as private clients come to me as things have come to a head from the tail end of 2024.

Sometimes it’s obvious for someone to reach out because their breathing is suffering…it could be their sleep that’s affected, it might be anxiety episodes through the day, etc.

In other examples, people will not recognise they have a breathing dysfunction but will have many symptoms that indicate this to me.

It is very common for breathing dysfunction to be hidden because it can reveal itself physiologically, psychologically and emotionally without the person realising what’s driving it or realising the cause is breathing-related.

There are two crucial factors in all of this. Bringing awareness to how you are breathing with expert help and gaining an understanding of why you have that dysfunction.

It is pointless just going on Google and reading about breathing exercises and then trying some. Don’t flirt with what you don’t understand. We’re talking about health rather than a fashion trend.

I have noticed this year more than any other that well-meaning mental health agencies have begun to list breathing exercises as part of a protocol to help with the likes of anxiety and overwhelm.

I’ve seen mindfulness practitioners and meditation practitioners promote this as well.

In the experience of clients, this can be unhelpful given the complexity of breathwork and breathing re-education.

Breathwork is a discipline on its own. It’s not a three day course to learn it either like you can find on sponsored Fb posts!

Like I said, don’t flirt with education about your breathing. it makes no sense.

Instead, get a much deeper understanding of it and it can become literally your best friend day and night.
